Laundry Room Tips
The laundry room seems to be the last place we think about organizing. It often ends up being a catch-all where all the things we don’t know where to put end up. With a little work, we can maximize the small space and turn it into a high-efficiency operation. Start by clearing out all the items that don’t belong in the laundry room. Either find them another home or discard them.
If you can install a clothing rod somewhere in the room for hanging clothes to dry, that you don’t put in the dryer. Perhaps between shelves or on the wall across from the washer and dryer, if you have enough space. If you don’t have enough space for a bar, consider a retractable wall drying rack. There are several different styles on the market.
Fill in the gaps. Don’t let that extra space between the appliances and the wall go to waste. Between the washer and dryer, use a narrow rolling shelf, or push the appliances together and use the space at the end to install a cabinet, shelving, or narrow tiered shelf on wheels. Install a shelf over the washer and dryer. In addition, installing cabinets above to store laundry and cleaning products will increase your storage space. If your cabinets do not reach the ceiling, you can store decorative baskets on top for extra storage.
Maximize your vertical space with a tired laundry hamper; they fit well in small laundry rooms. There are several styles available, both cloth totes and baskets, with 2 to 4 tiers. When it comes to an ironing board, well, I never understood why they were so long. I prefer the smaller tabletop type. They are easily hung behind the door or on the side of a cabinet, along with the iron. You can find an Iron/Ironing board hanger at most home goods stores. Speaking of behind-the-door storage, don’t let that go to waste either. If not using it as an ironing board storage, then an over-the-door organizer with bins to store extra paper towels and cleaning products.
