Bathroom Sent Tricks

Add a pleasant scent to keep your bathroom smelling fresh.  A reed diffuser lasts long, requires no flame or outlet, and comes in different scents. Alternatively, use an essential oil diffuser for a natural fragrance.  Store-bought air fresheners can smell really fake and bad.   Spritz homemade air freshener

Make your own room spray by combining these ingredients in a small spray bottle:

  • 3/4 cup water
  • 2 tbs isopropyl alcohol
  • 6 drops of essential oil

Applying essential oil to the cardboard tube of a toilet paper roll can disperse scent in a bathroom. When the roll is used, the movement releases the fragrance into the air.

A few essential oils to try are:

  • Lemon
  • Peppermint
  • Lavender
  • Tea tree

Use Poo-Poruri spray.   Before using the bathroom, spray Poo-Poruri into water. This product is designed to contain odors below the water’s surface rather than releasing them into the air.  Sometimes referred to as the ‘before you go spray,” it serves as an air freshener, reducing bathroom-related odors.

Use baking soda. Baking soda is effective at absorbing odors and can deodorize a bathroom. It is also relatively inexpensive. This method can help keep a windowless bathroom fresh. Place baking soda in a jar with holes in the lid, or a bowl or open container if it is unlikely to be disturbed.

Maintain airflow to prevent odors from accumulating. Use an exhaust fan after showers and crack the window when possible. Good ventilation is a highly effective way to eliminate bathroom odors.

Eliminate bathroom odors by pouring baking soda down the sink or shower drain, then adding white vinegar. The mixture will bubble and clear debris that can cause unpleasant smells.

A toilet bomb is like an odor-neutralizing toilet drop-in. It bubbles up and cleans your toilet bowl without needing to scrub.  Make your own toilet bombs.  Here is what you will need.

1 Cup Baking Soda

¼ Cup Citric acid

1 Tablespoon Dish Liquid (any brand will do)

Silicone Uce Cube Trays

Airtight Jar or Container

Combine 1 cup baking soda and ¼ cup citric acid in a large bowl. Add 1 tablespoon liquid dish soap and mix thoroughly. Press the mixture into silicone molds or an ice cube tray, wiping away any excess.

These will expand if you add more liquid, which is normal. Let them expand briefly, wipe away any excess, and refill your molds as needed. Store extra mixture in a sealed bag if you run out of molds.  Allow the bombs to dry for at least 4 hours or overnight. Once dry, remove and store in an airtight container. To use, drop one into the toilet bowl.  When it fizzes, it’s cleaning!  These homemade toilet cleaning bombs make toilet cleaning easy and hands-free!

Occasionally, thorough cleaning of the inside rim of the toilet bowl is necessary, and this method is suitable for that purpose. Required

materials:

1/2 Cup of Baking Soda

1/2 Cup of Castile Soap

15 Drops of Tea Tree Essential Oil

15 Drops of Lemon Essential Oil

1 Cup of Water

Old Toilet Bowl Cleaner Container or Plastic Bottle with Lid

Mix all ingredients in a large bowl, then funnel into a bottle. Pour or squirt about 1/4 cup into your toilet bowl, scrub thoroughly—including under the rim—then flush to rinse. For best results, use this method every two weeks and try the Toilet cleaning bombs between deep cleanings.

Clean your toilet brush monthly with a bleach solution or rubbing alcohol and replace it every six months. Let the brush air dry by placing it between the seat and bowl after use before storing it.

Wash towels after every 3-4 uses and always hang them to dry between uses. Bathmats often trap moisture and odors, so wash them weekly if used frequently. Keeping towels and rugs clean helps prevent bad smells and bacteria in the bathroom.

Keep drains clean and use a daily shower spray and do a thorough shower cleaning weekly.  Wash your shower curtain and liner regularly, allowing both to dry fully after use.  Replace bathroom trash liners and take out the garbage several times a week; add baking soda or a dryer sheet to absorb odors.  Stick to a cleaning routine:

Wipe counters, sink, and faucet daily with disinfecting wipes.  Clean the toilet and nearby floor often; wear gloves if needed.  Clean the shower weekly or spray it daily to prevent buildup.  Mop floors weekly, more if necessary.  Check for mold every few days.
